16 April 2008Case Study: Sagecrest Alzheimer’s Care Center
Sagecrest Alzheimer’s Care Center is demonstrating the benefits of rainwater harvesting to other San Angelo businesses and residents.
Often thought of as “too dry” for rainwater harvesting, the Center now relies heavily on rainwater collected in a 16,000 gallon Pioneer Water Tanks GALAXY® tank to irrigate its gardens and grounds.
Sagecrest is part of San Angelo Baptist Memorials Center, home to more than 650 residents.
“We have seen real benefits since the rainwater harvesting system (RWH) was installed, through a reduction in our reliance on city water and the associated cost savings,” said Mr Bob Knox, Director of Environmental Services at San Angelo Baptist Memorials Center.
Baptist Memorials Center is the first major company in San Angelo to install a RWH system and education is an important part of the new project.
AgriLife Extension will use this RWH working model to educate local ranchers, farmers, agricultural professionals and other interested parties on the process of rainwater harvesting.
Sagecrest’s RWH system is generating significant interest in San Angelo. “Other local businesses have visited our campus to learn more about RWH,” said Mr Knox.
“In addition to environmental benefits, there is growing recognition that investing in RWH infrastructure today can significantly reduce expenditure for many years to come,” he said. Plans are underway for more Pioneer Water Tanks tanks to be installed on the campus, with the next one scheduled to be operational next month.
