13 March 2009PIONEER GALAXY™ tank for USDA’s Kerrville, TX Lab
The US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) “Knipling-Bushland US Livestock Insects Research Laboratory” is home to a new 30,000 gallon PIONEER GALAXY™ water storage tank. Part of the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, the Kerrville, Texas facility has a proud history of research on livestock pest management which has benefited United States and worldwide livestock producers for more than half a century. Importantly, the lab’s programs also have application for human medicine. A reliable water supply is critical for the operation of this significant research facility.
In 2008, the USDA sought to replace the lab’s water storage tank that supplied all of the site’s operations. “When looking to replace our old leaking water tank, it was important to find a reliable and cost effective solution. The PIONEER GALAXY™ tank fits the bill for the lab’s complete water storage needs,” said Roger Sorsenson, Purchasing Agent for the USDA’s Kerrville facility.
“We were able to design the project to conform to the USDA'S immediate budgetary requirements as well as provide long term maintenance savings." said Davis Garrett, BlueScope Water’s Project Manager who worked on the design and installation of the project.
Customers, such as the USDA, find significant cost and efficiency benefits in PIONEER GALAXY™ water storage tanks. The tank’s modular structure makes delivery, assembly and installation considerably faster and easier than many other types of tanks such as concrete.
PIONEER GALAXY™ water storage tanks feature the innovative AQUALINER® water storage liner which is certified to NSF61 Drinking Water System Components. Another key benefit of the AQUALINER® water storage liner is that it prevents direct water contact with the steel tank structure. This minimizes the need for costly and time consuming repainting of the interior of the tank.
The USDA’s new PIONEER GALAXY™ water storage tank supplies water for all of the laboratory’s needs including the lab’s scientific research activities, livestock watering and drinking water for the scientists and staff that work at the facility. The tank stores water pumped from a nearby well.
Over more than half a century, the USDA’s Kerrville lab has had a history of cooperating with cattle producers, regulatory agencies and the animal health industry. As health authorities and the public are demanding assistance to find safe, effective, low environmental impact and cost effective solutions to control pest species, the laboratory’s knowledge, research expertise and broad reaching cooperation is more important than ever. BlueScope Water is proud to be a small part of the USDA’s work in this important field.
